A Brief History of Screaming Claws

Screaming Claws started in the Summer of 2011 between three musicians apart of the Chicago improvisational/experimental scene, Brian Griffith, Natalie Chami and Nicholas Davis. The goal of the group was, and still is, to bring together improvisational musicians, record and play with them. Simple that. Our aspirations moved beyond that to try and create a network and community of musicians, using the internet as a glue that held us all together.

Griffith moved to Los Angeles at the end of 2011 and has been working with Chami to create an online hub for their individual and collaborative releases. In 2012, Steffi Neuhuber, an Austrian woodwind player joined the group, as Davis prepared for academic study in sound art, at School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Screaming Claws has been consistently recording and pumping out improvisational sessions of the highest quality and plans to continue doing so in the future, as well as traveling and organizing in-person shows and more improvisational, internet, collaborative works.

Screaming Claws has released 3 Albums and 7 singles, so far and with hours of stockpiled material, there are many more to come. Our goal is to bring a greater appreciation and awareness of experimental, ambient and improvisational music.
